We are proud to partner with hardworking clients who are pushing the boundaries of programmatic and putting the right medications in front of HCPs and patients at the right time. PulsePoint established the Trader Hall of Fame to highlight their efforts and give others a closer look at the individuals shaping this quickly evolving industry. This month, we welcome Skyler Quandt, programmatic trader at EVERSANA INTOUCH, to the Trader Hall of Fame.
Every member of the PulsePoint Trader Hall of Fame has a unique career path that brought them to programmatic marketing—but Skyler’s might be the only one that involves breakaway roping.
Skyler earned a rodeo scholarship to Tarleton State University in Texas, where she received a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology and a master’s degree in higher education.
During college, she was working for the academic affairs office when a friend and coworker recommended a new opportunity in programmatic marketing. She didn’t know much about programmatic at the time, but as her rodeo experience showed, she was determined, and she wasn’t afraid to jump into something new—so her friend knew she would be a great fit.
Skyler spent a couple years learning the ropes (pun fully intended) and quickly found her niche working with numbers and knew she wanted to continue with programmatic. She now works at EVERSANA INTOUCH as a programmatic trader.
When asked what she enjoys the most about her job as a programmatic trader, Skyler said she is very math minded, so she likes the analytics side of things. “If someone was like, ‘You can only do one thing; what’s it going to be?’ I would choose doing the data analysis,” she said.
She likes making the connection between the data and campaign performance, as well as tweaking the campaigns to get the results she wants. “I really enjoy coming up with formulas or even pacing out different ideas,” she said, adding that she likes putting together the data in Excel to analyze and determine how to best move forward.
It’s not surprising, then, that Skyler’s number one piece of advice for programmatic newbies is to spend a lot of time in Excel. “I have this theory that if one person knew everything that Excel could do, they could probably rule the world,” she said.
She says she makes it a point to continue to learn and create new efficiencies in Excel even with her five years of programmatic experience. She advised those who are new to the industry to start playing around with formulas and consider how to visualize data in new ways and look at things differently. She also recommended they check out the many video tutorials on YouTube and to never be afraid to ask questions, no matter how small they may seem.
Alongside exploring Excel, she recommends people familiarize themselves with DSPs. “Not all DSPs are the same,” she said, which is why it’s important to explore the options and even sign up for platform trainings or certifications. She added that it’s very helpful when people who are new to the platforms give their feedback, noting things like ease of use or anything that seems clunky; fresh eyes hold immense value.
She also shared the best advice she has ever heard, and something that she reminds herself of regularly: “No one will ever be mad at you for trying. The only time you need to be mad at yourself is if you stop trying or don’t try at all.”
“You know more than you think you know,” she said. “You are more competent than you realize.”
Skyler gave a shoutout to her PulsePoint team and said she enjoys having such an open and collaborative partnership. “I feel like good partners make or break experiences in DSPs because DSPs … are constantly changing.”
Programmatic relies on ever-changing technology, so she appreciates having a good relationship where she can communicate quickly and effectively with the PulsePoint team. She also said she likes the way the team is not only constantly asking for feedback but also always open to it.
When working in the PulsePoint platform, her favorite features are the Clinical Insights. “We’ve been able to apply that to a lot of our added value in terms of presenting ideas to clients,” she said. She also appreciates Smart Lists and all the different ways she can incorporate the NPI list into campaigns.
From her home in central Illinois, Skyler said she enjoys spending time with her family, including taking trips to see her parents and rodeoing with her younger brother. “My family is a huge part of my life, so we spend a lot of time with them, and I feel like a lot of our extracurriculars are around all of us doing something together,” she said.
And as a new mom, she’s been spending a lot of time with her daughter. She still rides horses and competes, but she said motherhood “is taking up a ton of my time right now, and it has so far been so fun.”
